As a young woman, I participated in a sweat lodge with the Seminole Tribe. In college, I juggled my studies while working at an oceanside ice cream shop and a hospital ER. I then studied Jewish mysticism and Eastern Christian theology in seminary. I've met literary giants John Updike, Joyce Carol Oates, and Jane Smiley. Believe it or not, I've been a ghost wrangler, gator whisperer, and even thwarted an alien invasion. I hope the telling of those stories are worth hearing. Whatever I write, I try to find a way to infuse the stories that drive us into the piece. I try to bring that to the page.
I have taught at Emory and SMU for 20 years — in design and marketing. I design professionally for digital and print. I have been photographing images since I was a small child. But it was always writing that was my first passion. When I attended The Poynter Institute in high school and college, I had a focus to pursue journalism. That bent in the direction of public relations, marketing, then instructional design and curriculum and content development. Here on Medium, I enjoy the space to write what I want, at the pace that suits me, without the pressure of needing to make a deadline!
